Registration of a Child’s Birth

A child born abroad, one of whose parents was a citizen of the Republic of Serbia at the time of the child’s birth, acquires the right to citizenship of the Republic of Serbia by descent.

For a child born in Qatar, the birth registration application must be submitted to the Embassy in Doha.

At the same time, an application for the child’s entry in the Register of Citizens of the Republic of Serbia must also be submitted.

The application for registering the fact of birth abroad in the Birth Register is submitted by one of the parents. If one parent is a foreign national, the application must be submitted by the parent who is a citizen of the Republic of Serbia.

The Embassy registers the birth electronically, while the applicant must personally submit the original document to the Registrar upon their first visit to the Republic of Serbia, at which time they will receive an extract from the Birth Register.

If the child is over 14 years of age, the child’s consent is required for registration in the Birth Register.
